LORIS (Laurier Online Registration and Information System) is a platform used by students and faculty at Wilfrid Laurier University for course registration, accessing tuition and financial information, and updating personal data. The project aimed to redesign LORIS to address usability issues, enhance navigation, and modernize the interface for a more intuitive user experience.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Outdated Interface: LORIS has a cluttered, text-heavy layout with unclear navigation, leading to user frustration.
  • Complex Navigation: Users experience redundant clicks and vague labels, making it difficult to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Poor Visual Design: The interface lacks modern visual elements, leading to cognitive overload and dissatisfaction.
  • Task Inefficiency: Students and faculty struggle with common tasks like course registration and accessing grades, resulting in trial-and-error navigation.

THE SOLUTION

  • Streamlined Navigation: Redesigned dashboard with large, clear buttons and customizable layouts for easier access to frequently used features.
  • Modern Visual Design: Clean, visually appealing layout with consistent button styles and minimal clutter.

    • Customizable Homepage: Personalize the dashboard by pinning frequently accessed tools.
    • Dropdown Menus: Group related tasks under clear, intuitive categories.
    • Improved Search Bar: Easily find specific students, grades, or forms.
    • Tab Labels & Clarity: Simplified and more descriptive tab names to minimize confusion.
